MANGALURU:
Bantwal Town police arrested three people under the
Pocso Act for
sexually assaulting a
minor girl on Wednesday night.
Razak, 36, a bakery line salesman, Shekabba, 65, a scrap dealer, and Nawaz, 21, a hotel worker, (all residents of
Goodinabali near BC Road) allegedly raped the 8-year-old girl at different times the same day. The incident took place when the girl was visiting her grandmother at Goodinabali. Razak took the girl to the terrace of a house and committed the crime. Later, Shekabba took the girl near an under-construction building and sexually assaulted her. The third accused also committed a similar atrocity.
The girl was admitted to a hospital in Deralakatte near Mangaluru. Her kin filed a complaint against the accused. Police said the accused will be produced before the court.
Memorandum submitted
Earlier, a delegation of the Social Democratic Party of India submitted a memorandum to city police commissioner T R Suresh, demanding arrest of the accused.
Bantwal committee president of
SDPI Monish Ali said that justice should be served to the 8-year-old girl and suitable compensation should be provided to her. “Even when women are coming forward in all fields, the number of sexual assault cases against them is increasing by the day, ” he said.
Incident condemned
Condemning the incident, the Women India Movement (WIM) has urged police to act tough against the accused. “While accused in rape cases get bail, the possibilities of recurrence of such cases increase. Hence, the police should consider cases of sexual assaults very seriously,” said Nasriya Bellary, president, WIM.
