PSA Will Electrify All Models Launched From 2019 Onward

French automaker PSA is accelerating the electrification of its lineup with the announcement that all new models developed from 2019 onwards will also feature fully-electric or hybrid versions.

Starting next year, every new model launched by Peugeot, Citroën, DS, Vauxhall, and Opel will be available in internal combustion, all-electric or PHEV configurations, the latter with CO2 emissions of less than 49 g/km.

In just two years, PSA claims it will launch 15 new electrified vehicles. Eight of these will be plug-in hybrids and will include the DS 7 Crossback E-Tense 4×4 that goes on sale this month, the Peugeot 3008, Peugeot 508 and 508 SW, Citroën C5 Aircross, Vauxhall Grandland X and Opel Grandland X.

The remaining seven models will be all-electric and they will include the recently revealed DS 3 Crossback E-Tense (pictured), which represents the first vehicle belonging to PSA’s new electric generation.

To achieve this ambitious plan, PSA is focusing on building the new models on two platforms, CMP (Common Modular Platform) and EMP2 (Efficient Modular Platform). The company says these architectures are able to integrate “any of the powertrains of its line-up, internal combustion, electric or hybrid.”

Furthermore, the platforms allow PSA’s plants to build internal combustion, hybrid or electric vehicles on the same production line. While CMP covers the entry-level part of PSA’s lineup, EMP2 underpins compact and larger models including sedans, coupes, LAVs (Leisure Activity Vehicles), SUVs, and LCVs.

PSA targets a 100-percent electrified lineup for its Peugeot, Citroën, DS, Opel, and Vauxhall brands by 2025.
