CHANDIGARH: Two armed men shot at a factory worker outside his house in Ramdarbar, Phase 2, on Thursday evening.

After the bullet hit Bunty, 28, on his neck, the miscreants sped away. Passersby called up the police, who took the injured to Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32. Police said Bunty had been living with his wife, Babita, in a rented accommodation in Ramdarbar for the past two months.

“Bunty and Babita were on way home from a nearby market. When they reached outside their house, two men walked towards Bunty and confronted him. Soon, one of them took out a pistol and fired a shot at him. The bullet hit Bunty on his neck. The area was bustling with people when they opened fire and fled. The duo had parked their motorcycle at some distance,” said a cop.

As Babli raised the alarm, people gathered at the spot and sounded the police. On receiving the information, UT SSP Nilambari Jagdale, the DSP (crime), the DSP (south) and the area SHO reached the spot.

DSP Pawan Kumar said, “The goons, who were not masked, fired only one bullet. Doctors have operated upon Bunty. His condition is stated to be critical. We will get a clear picture after recording his statement. His wife told us that he had no enmity with anyone and that she suspected none.”

The police are scrutinising the footage of CCTV cameras installed in and around the area.

Sector 31 police have registered a case. No arrests have been made so far.
