THANE: A BJP corporator from Dombivli, who is a close aide of a junior cabinet minister, could continue to be behind bars for the next four months, following rejection of his bail plea by the Supreme Court on Wednesday.

BJP corporator Mahesh Patil has been explicitly told by the court that he would not be able to move for bail for the next four months.

Mahesh has been booked by the Thane police for allegedly awarding a Rs 50-lakh contract to eliminate his old rival, Kunal Patil, who is an independent corporator supporting the BJP in the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation.

Last December, Mahesh’s aides were trapped by the police before they could execute a dacoity on Bhiwandi Wada road. Interrogation of the accused revealed that they had been paid by the BJP corporator to eliminate Kunal.

Mahesh was arrested in January after a magistrate’s court rejected his bail plea and later, the Kalyan sessions court and the Bombay high court too rejected his bail pleas. Mahesh then approached the Supreme Court.
