PUNE: The Pune police recently prevented a 30-year-old woman from jumping into the Mula-Mutha river from the Bund Garden bridge to end her life.

An officer from the Yerawada police told TOI that the police got a call about a woman who was along the bridge and her movements were suspicious. "Assistant inspector Sushil Bobade and his team rushed to the bridge and found that the woman was about to jump into the river," the officer said.

The officer said that the police team prevented the woman from jumping into the river. The woman looked tense. The team pacified her and brought her to the police chowky.

"The woman was from Pravaranagar in Ahmednagar district. She told the police that she was debt ridden. She had decided to end her life because it was not possible for her to repay the loan," the officer said adding, "The woman also told the police that she was having family problems."

The officer said that with the help of lady police constables API Bobade counselled the woman and prevented her from committing suicide. "When the police came to know that the woman’s sister-in-law was staying at Wadgaonsheri, they traced her house and handed over the woman to them," the officer said.
