Dear Ferrari Purists,
This is your cue. For the times you’ve ridiculed Lamborghini for making the Urus, or even Porsche for making the Cayenne, take a moment and soak this in. The coveted Prancing Horse will find its place on the nose of an… *smashes head into the keyboard*.
Ah, this is Ferrari. So, it obviously it ISN’T going to be an SUV. It’s going to be an ‘FUV’. No, the boys from Maranello aren’t taking a page out of Mahindra’s book. It stands for ‘Ferrari Utility Vehicle’. Translated by team Zig, that means it’s something that has the raw, spine-tingling performance you expect from a Ferrari, mixed with the practicality of four doors, and possibly a not so low ground clearance. But that’s an SUV, you might argue. Shh, peasant. It’s what Ferrari says it is, ok?
We know Ferrari is calling it the Purosangue. A tongue twister which means ‘thoroughbred’ in Italian. There are more details about the vehicle too, including the fact that the engine will be mounted in the front, it will have four-wheel drive and have four seats as well. And this isn’t another coupe with an excuse of a second row. Ferrari says the car in question will be spacious for a family of four. Interesting, isn’t it?
This ‘not an SUV’ will be powered by a hybrid engine, which means a high-revving petrol engine (possibly a V8) paired with electric motors. Handling transmission duties will be a dual-clutch transmission placed at the rear of the car to ensure better weight distribution. While there are no numbers right now, there’s word it’ll be the fastest among its peers.
That alone signals around 700PS of power, considering Lamborghini’s Urus pushes out about 650PS. Of course, unlike the Urus that relies on petrol power alone, the Purosangue will have a massive advantage in torque thanks to the electric motors. Will it breach the 1000Nm mark? We’ve got enough reason to believe it just might.
Ferrari’s Purosangue will hit the streets in 2022. We really hope Ferrari sells these by the shipload. Because that way, we’ll have more of the sexy coupes and cabrios we love so much.
Love,
Zigwheels
