HYDERABAD: A few hours after newlyweds Madhavi and Sandeep were attacked at Erragadda by her father on Wednesday, Madhavi was shifted to Yashoda Hospital, Somajiguda, for a marathon
surgery that went on for over seven hours. Though Madhavi was taken off ventilator support on Thursday afternoon, hospital officials said she needs to stay in the ICU for further monitoring.
Madhavi was initially taken to Neelima Hospital in Sanathnagar and at around 5.35pm was shifted to Yashoda Hospital.
“When Madhavi was shifted to the hospital, she had already lost a lot of blood and her Haemoglobin was 3 gm%. She was in
hypovolemic shock. Our main aim was to stop the bleeding and save her. We rushed her to surgery after a CT scan,” said Dr Ravi Suman Reddy, senior neuro surgeon, Yashoda Hospital. Doctors, she was provided four units of blood during surgery. She had sustained several injuries on the left side of the angle of the mouth, skull, neck and left forearm. When she was brought to the hospital, her blood pressure was very low and her left hand was nearly amputated and hanging by the skin.
“Madhavi sustained a deep laceration of 15cm X 5cm on the left side of the face, splitting her ear, neck and the nape of the neck. Four major surgeries were conducted to reconstruct the facial nerves, blood vessels, ear and muscles. In the left hand, blood vessels, nerves, tendons and muscles were reconstructed and the bones fixed,” said Dr Rambabu N, senior plastic surgeon, Yashoda Hospital.
Post-surgery, Madhavi was kept on mechanical ventilatory support and shifted to the surgical ICU. Given her age, doctors seem confident about her recovery.
