She had allegedly demanded ₹5 lakh to withdraw complaint against accused

A rape victim was arrested along with her two accomplices by Haryana’s Jind Police for allegedly accepting ₹2 lakh to withdraw the complaint. The widow had accused two men of raping her in Jind’s Pali village on September 15.

In a press statement, the Jind Police claimed that the widow was in constant touch with the family of the accused to withdraw the complaint in return for monetary gains. She had allegedly demanded ₹5 lakh for not pursuing the case further.

The accused’s family had agreed to pay ₹2 lakh in advance.

The widow along with a man and another woman reached outside a hotel on Safidon Road on Tuesday evening to receive the advance payment, said the police. The accused’s family, however, informed the police and the trio was arrested.

Affidavit seized

The police also claimed to have seized an affidavit seeking to withdraw the complaint and confiscated the vehicle in which the three had come. The man has been identified as Sanjay, a resident of Bhagalpur village in Jhajjar. Both the women belong to Rewari.

The victim had, in her complaint, alleged that she had gone to Pali village for the typhoid treatment on September 15 when two men — Satpal and Leela — took her to a tubewell room on the outskirts of the village on the pretext of helping her with the directions and raped her. She claimed that Satpal raped her inside the room while Leela kept guard outside.

The rape accused, however, are still at large.
