Trio assault man at Chennai’s Triplicane railway station, snatch cellphone and cash

CHENNAI: A man waiting for a train at MRTS’s Triplicane railway station here on Wednesday night was attacked with a knife by three unidentified men to rob his cellphone and cash. Rajendran Kasinathan, 52, who suffered injuries in the attack, has been admitted to Royapettah Government Hospital.
Police said Kasinathan, a native of Pudukkottai who is working at a mess in Anna Nagar here, visited Marina Beach on Wednesday evening. After spending time on Marina Beach, he was about to return home around 10.30pm.

He went to the Triplicane MRTS station and was waiting on platform number two to take a train to the Beach station from where he could catch a bus to Anna Nagar. A man, aged around 28, approached him demanding money. When Kasinathan declined, the man started attacking him.

Kasinathan fought off the man and overpowered him. At this juncture, two others, who were standing behind him, attacked Kasinathan with a knife.

They snatched his cellphone worth Rs 1,500 and Rs 1,000 in cash and fled the scene.
