LUCKNOW: After unveiling two big projects of Akhilesh Yadav regime, Lucknow Metro and Agra-Lucknow expressway, the Yogi government is set to launch another project initiated by the previous government — cow milk plant.

In 2015, Akhilesh Yadav had laid the foundation stone for UP’s first cow milk production centre in Kannauj, the parliamentary constituency of his wife Dimple Yadav. The centre will be managed by the state-run Parag Dairy. One of the aims for setting up the centre was to promote conservation of cows.

Principal secretary, dairy development, Sudhir Bovde told TOI that the centre will be inaugurated around Diwali. It will produce 1 lakh litres cow milk per day.

Bovde said Kannauj milk plant would cater to the farmers rearing cows. In order to procure cow milk and increase its production, the state government is considering giving additional incentive to the milk producers of this segment.

Bovde said market trends show that people are now giving up high fat milk of buffalo and opting for cow milk which has less fat content.

By launching UP’s first cow milk production, Parag Dairy will try to counter two main competitors in cow milk segment — Patanjali and Mother Dairy, for which foundation was laid during Akhilesh regime.
