In the Asia Cup 2018 match on Wednesday, India thrashed arch-rivals Pakistan by eight wickets. After bowling up Pakistan for 162, India comfortably chased down the score in 29 overs to register a massive victory. However, besides the win, something caught attention of former Indian player and now commentator Sunil Gavaskar, and he went to rant over it. Gavaskar slams Pakistani opener Fakhar Zaman for wearing his national cap like a ‘rapper’ (backwards) and Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik for wearing a jersey with only his initials on it.
While doing a broadcast show on Star Sports, Gavaskar said “Somebody, maybe the captain should tell him that it’s the national cap. He should wear it properly. You can do this in PSL (Pakistan Super League) may be but this is the national team.” Gavaskar noticed Zaman’s cap-wearing style while he was bowling 18th over.
He also noticed Dinesh Karthik who was wearing a jersey with only his initials ‘DK’ and not the full name. The Little Master said, “May be that’s his nickname but since the jersey carries his number, people should identify with the name. Maybe with the name, he can have his initials.”
The legendary cricketer is very touchy about how players treat their jersey and caps after learning a lesson from his uncle Madhav Mantri who once told him that ‘you need to earn the pullover to wear it’, when, as a kid, Sunny had demanded to wear an ex-cricketer’s pullover.
