NY cardinal appoints judge to review abuse cases

ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) The Archbishop of New York Cardinal Timothy Dolan appointed retired federal judge Barbara Jones to review how the New York church handles accusations of abuse by clergy.

Dolan introduced Jones as the new special counsel and independent reviewer during a news conference in New York on Thursday (September 20).

"I promised her complete access to our records, personnel and to me personally," the cardinal said.

Jones not only promised to review of how the church handles accusations of abuse, she also promised to review safety programs aimed at preventing the sexual abuse of minors.
