Mumbai: A 21-year-old youth has been arrested by the Marine Drive police for causing death due to negligence. Ashwin Jain (55), a textile businessman was killed after the accused who was speeding heavily ran over him on Sunday morning. Jain, a resident of south Mumbai, had gone to Marine Drive on Sunday morning. When he was crossing the road after parking his bike at BD Somani Chowk, the accused Shaun George Camron (21) rammed into Jain and fled from the spot.
Shivdeep Lande, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Anti-Narcotics cell was at the spot when the incident occurred and rushed to help Jain. On Sunday, Lande heard a loud noise while he was running. When he turned around, he saw people had gathered around Jain, who lay in a pool of blood. With the help of some people, he immediately put him inside a taxi. Later, the Marine Drive cops rushed Jain to the Gokuldas Tejpal Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
Senior inspector at Marine Drive police station Vilas Gangawne said, “Shaun Camron has been arrested on Wednesday. He is a resident of Nalanda Co-operative Housing society at Evershine nagar, Marve in Malad. Based on the CCTV footage, the registration number of the car and the accused were identified.” Camron has been arrested for rash driving or riding on a public way (Section 279), causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others (Section 338) and causing death due to negligence (Section 304 (A)) of the Indian Penal Code and duty of driver in case of accident (Section 184) of the Motor Vehicle Act.
