Bahrain is among the top 10 most popular nations in the world in terms of tourism per capita, said a new survey.
With a total of 2,900 visitors annually per 1,000 citizens, the kingdom positioned ninth worldwide and was the only GCC or Arab country to be showcased in the study carried on by travel website TravelMag.com.
The survey took a look at the annual visitor numbers in countries worldwide and compared them in terms of their size of their respective populations.
The visitor arrival number used in the study was taken from a report published by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) last month.
For countries where no official UNWTO data was obtainable, alternative sources were used.
For survey, only sovereign nations with a population of at least 100,000 were considered.
According to the UN report, tourism in the Middle East is rebounding.
“The Middle East showed signs of recovery in 2017 with a strong 13 per cent increase in income generated by international tourism,” it said, adding that international tourist arrivals rose by 5pc.
“Egypt led growth both in absolute and relative terms in arrivals, rebounding strongly from previous years.
