LUDHIANA: MC commissioner K P Brar on Wednesday issued a warning to officials of sanitation branch to make all mobile toilets functional or face music. The commissioner visited different places to check whether public toilets had been made operational or not. The officials also checked other public toilets later in the evening.
Much to her surprise, she found some of the public toilets locked while most of these toilets were without power connection.

At some places, there was no proper water supply to the toilets. The civic officials have been ordered to fix the shortcomings by September 25 before the third party inspection of these public toilets. The MC has aimed to declare city open defecation-free on October 2 during a ceremony.

Brar said, “I found certain shortcomings in public toilets for which I have already issued instructions. I will again visit these places to check whether required changes have been made in these toilets.” She said that they will stick to October 2 deadline to declare city ODF.

Sources revealed that an executive engineer of operation and maintenance cell has gone on medical leave fearing action against him after his work was found not up to the mark. The sources also revealed that he might invite some serious action for his act. He was given the charge of handling public toilets and was already issued a show-cause notice by the commissioner.
