Mangaluru: One killed, 6 injured after car overturns

MANGALURU: A 23-year-old man was killed and six others suffered grievous injuries after the car in which they were travelling overturned near Thokkottu on Wednesday midnight.

All youths hailing from Kerala and working at a private hospital in Derlakatte had gone on a long drive in a newly purchase SUV of their colleague. Police said Anup, 23, resident of Ernakulam lost life in the mishap.

According to police, seven persons including victim had gone to for a small party hosted by car owner as part of owning a new vehicle. After dinner, they planned for a long drive. The car driver, on reaching near Thokkottu, where flyover construction work is in progress, failed to notice construction work ahead. He instead of applying break, accelerated vehicle in panic and as a result, vehicle toppled. Anup was killed on the spot and rest are being treated at a hospital here. The incident took place around 12.45am and the vehicle has been completely mangled.

A case has been registered at Mangaluru South Traffic police station.
