Disney shows off its magical slate of content

Cape Town – Walt Disney Company Africa held their annual showcase on Tuesday at the Black River Club. 

Disney Africa presented new and exciting children's content, movies and television series.

The scene stealer was Mickey Mouse who is celebrating his 90th anniversary.

South Africa joins the global celebration this month with an exclusive local design project where ten highly talented local artists will apply their own inspiration and artistic interpretation on 6-foot Mickey Mouse statues.

Once completed, the statues will form part of the Mickey the True Original South African Exhibition.

The exhibition will travel to 3 cities: Sandton City, Centre Court (28 September – 14 October), Gateway Theatre of Shopping (19 October – 11 November) and Canal Walk Shopping Centre (16  – 26 November).

A TV special, Mickey's 90th Spectacular that will be broadcast later this year on M-Net (DStv 101).

Here are some of the other highlights:

MOVIES:

* The movies still to be released in the film slate this year include: Nutcracker and the Four Realms (2 November), Ralph Breaks the Internet (30 November) and Mary Poppins Returns (28 Dececember).

* Filming for Artemis Fowl has begun. Based on the first book of Eoin Colfer's best-selling series it follows 12-year-old genius Artemis Fowl who finds himself in a battle of strength and cunning against a powerful, hidden race of fairies who may be behind his father’s disappearance.

KIDS PROGRAMMING:

* Actress Raven Simone is coming to South Africa to promote season 2 of her show Raven’s Home in October. 

* The 2003 hit movie Freaky Friday gets a modern musical retelling starring Cozi Zuehlsdorff and Heidi Blickenstaff.

* Star Wars Resistance, a new animated series that takes place prior to the events of The Force Awakens, takes flight with a one-hour premiere in October on Disney XD (DStv). It follows Kazuda Xiono, a young pilot recruited by the Resistance and tasked with a top-secret mission to spy on the growing threat of the First Order.

SERIES:

* From ABC studios there are 13 returning shows including: How To Get Away With Murder, Grey’s Anatomy, Station 19, For The People and Grown-ish to name a few. 

*3 new series are set to debut: The Fix, The Kids are Alright and The Grand Hotel. 

The Fix is a legal drama created by Marcia Clark the lead prosecutor in the O. J. Simpson murder case. It centres on Maya Travis (Robin Tunney), an L.A. district attorney who suffers a devastating defeat when prosecuting an A-list actor (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) for double murder.

The Kids are Alright is comedy about an Irish Catholic family in suburban Los Angeles circa 1973, navigating the trials and tribulations of the era.
