PIMPRI CHINCHWAD: The Pimpri Chinchwad police will start banning heavy vehicles from entering Hinjewadi village on a pilot basis from Wednesday to reduce traffic congestion on the roads leading to the Rajiv Gandhi IT park.
Inspector (traffic) Kishore Mhaswade said lakhs of IT professionals working in the IT park suffered because of the snarls during peak traffic hours in the morning and evening hours.

“Hinjewadi and the IT park came under the jurisdiction of the Pimpri Chinchwad police commissionerate after its formation on August 15. Under the guidance of Pimpri Chinchwad police commissioner R K Padmanabhan, we started implementing the rotary vehicular traffic system to reduce the snarls on the roads to the IT park from September 4,” Mhaswade said.

“The IT professionals have appreciated the move as it is saving their time, fuel and commute expenses. The police have made some minor changes to help the villagers of Hinjewadi to reduce their hardships caused by the new traffic plan,” he added.

The officer said the slow moving heavy vehicles had been banned from plying in the city areas during peak morning and evening hours to reduce the congestions.

“We will stop the heavy vehicles coming from Wakad bridge and heading towards Shivaji Chowk near the Indian Oil petrol pump. The heavy vehicles from Dange/Kalakhadak Chowk take a turn through the Bhumkar Chowk underpass and cause congestion,” he said.

The ban on the heavy vehicles will be in force till September 26. Citizens can share their suggestions and objections with the police commissioner till then.
