The police on Wednesday arrested a man and his partner, who duped 60 sovereigns of gold from a woman, whom they met on Facebook.
Arrested were Vallikkatt Sibin, 30, of Ponnani and Nisha alias Hayarunnisa, 38, of Ponnani. They were arrested on a complaint from a woman from Eramanglam.
According to the police, Nisha and the woman, who was duped, were acquaintances. The woman, whose husband is abroad, became friend with Sibin through Nisha. They used to chat regularly on Facebook.
Sibin, who shared his financial issues with the woman, asked ornaments as a temporary arrangement. Even Nisha took around 20 sovereigns of gold from the woman. The cheating came to light when her family members inquired as the woman started wearing artificial gold ornaments.
