HYDERABAD: Just days after the suspected honour killing of a Dalit man in Nalgonda district, a couple was brutally attacked in the heart of Hyderabad on Wednesday.
An armed assailant accosted the couple in Erragadda area in broad daylight and hit them with a sharp-edged weapon.
While the girl suffered injuries on her head, the boy with him also sustained injuries on his head and hands. Both belong to different castes, police said after a preliminary probe.
The girl was seen crying for help with locals surrounding her after she was attacked by the assailant multiple times.
The locals after alerting the police, rushed the couple to a nearby private hospital in Sanathnagar, where they were admitted to the ICU. The girl's condition is said to be serious, police said.
Police have registered a case of attempt to murder against an unknown person and investigations are underway. The incident sent shock waves in the locality.
Police are also verifying the news of their secret marriage a month ago.
