The local unit of the Bharathiya Janata Party has urged the Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi to give her assent to the government decision to fix minimum age limit for recruitment to the police force at 24 years.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, president of the BJP V. Saminathan said the Lt. Governor should give her consent to increase the minimum age limit from 22 to 24 years.

The Lt. Governor had expressed her apprehension on the government’s move to increase the age limit. Ms. Bedi should reconsider her decision, the BJP leader said.

The BJP was willing to take up the issue with the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. Increasing the age limit would help more youngsters to apply for the recruitment as it was done after a long time, Mr. Saminathan said.

The BJP leader also questioned the Congress for staging a protest over a ‘non’ issue — Rafale deal. There was no corruption in the agreement made with the French government, he said.

If the Congress was concerned about the deal, the party should approach the Court seeking an inquiry, he said.
