LUDHIANA: The district is all set for Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections, scheduled for Wednesday.
Besides police force, the administration has deputed 10,300 civil staffers on polling duty and 1,200 for counting.
The Ludhiana police commissionerate has 13 hyper-sensitive polling booths and 128 sensitive ones. For these, 3,159 staffers have been deputed.
Jagraon has 24 hyper-sensitive and 66 sensitive polling booths for which 1,571 staffers have been deputed. As many as 1,012 staffers have been assigned for Khanna that has 21 hyper-sensitive and 76 sensitive booths.
There are a total of 11,60,751 voters, including 6,19,188 men, 5,41,563 women and 16 others. Dehlon has 70,458 voters; Doraha 78,157; Jagraon 1,29,099; Khanna 69,320; Ludhiana-1 1,72,209; Ludhiana-2 1,57,294;
Machhiwara 71,757; Malaud 54,083; Pakhowal 72,676;
Raikot 68,669; Samrala 63,203; Sidhwan Bet 56,924 and Sudhar 96,902. The Punjab government has announced a public holiday in all government offices, boards, corporations and educational institutions on the polling day.
Carrying of all kinds of weapons has been banned in the district. Residents have been directed to deposit their weapons in the nearest police station. The orders will remain in force till September 23.
Ludhiana deputy commissioner Pardeep Kumar Agrawal, who is also the district election officer, has urged all voters to exercise their right to vote in a fair manner without any fear.
