Indore: Branded petrol over Rs 90/litre burns hole in people’s pocket


Burning hole in people’s pockets, the cost of branded petrol breached Rs 90 per litre-mark on Tuesday and may cost Rs 91 per litre in coming days. The higher price is hitting customers who are forced to purchase the fuel when the normal petrol is out of stock.  With every passing day, the petrol prices are setting all-time high record. The fuel price, which started two months ago, continues its unabated run.

Owing to this trend, when the price of normal petrol crossed Rs 88 per litre with rise of 10 paisa on Tuesday, the prices of branded petrol sold by oil marketing companies (OMCs) are ruling above Rs 90 per litre. A decade back, all the three OMCs introduced branded petrol with name Power (Hindustan Petroleum), Extra Premium (Indian Oil Company) and Speed Fuel (Bharat Petroleum).  Rajendra Singh Vasu, president of Indore Petroleum Dealers Association, said prices of all branded petrol crossed Rs 90 per litre on September 14.

On Tuesday, the rate of price of ‘Speed Petrol’ of Bharat Petroleum was Rs 91.01, which was Rs 90.91 per litre on Monday. Similarly, price of Extra Premium brand petrol of IOC was Rs 90.77 per litre, while on Monday, its rate was Rs 90.67 per litre.
Informing about higher prices of branded petrol, Vasu said companies mix costly additives in the fuel, which boost the functioning of engine and improve mileage of vehicle over the time.
