AICC president decries Narendra Modi’s ‘inaction’ on quota Bill

AICC president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday stressed the need for greater representation of women in politics and various wings of the government.

Interacting with students at Byreddy Convention Hall on the sidelines of his visit to Kurnool district, Mr. Gandhi said that there should be a substantial and representation of women in all spheres, including politics.

“We need more women to join politics, the armed forces, police department and several other government agencies so as to facilitate creation of dedicated systems for them in the country. For instance, they can voice their problems without hesitation at ‘women police stations’ and the same can be extrapolated to other entities, thereby creating enough place for women in the system,” he added.

Recalling the recent incidents of atrocities against women, which reportedly involved a few leaders from the BJP, Mr. Gandhi asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should have set an example for his party cadres by condemning them and calling for stern action against those linked with them. “The attitude of Indian men towards women should change. Women are capable of anything and we would like to push for that particular change via the Women’s Reservation Bill, still pending and neglected by Mr. Modi, in Parliament,” he maintained.

Banking reforms

On the banking system, which Mr. Gandhi felt, was captured by ‘10-15 individuals,’ reforms should be initiated so that money is easily available to young entrepreneurs and small and medium units. “We want to ensure that money in the banking system is made available to every hard working person in the country,” he said. Highlighting the burden imposed by Goods and Services Tax (GST) which he called ‘Gabbar Singh Tax,’ the AICC chief said that the Congress, if voted to power, would simplify the structure. People-friendly decisions such as bringing petrol and diesel under its ambit would be taken.

During the interaction, Mr. Gandhi spoke at length on various aspects such as ‘corruption in the Modi government’ and the measures envisaged by the Congress for building a better India. He urged youngsters to strive to change the very nature of the existing systems by joining politics.
