Weather Update: Rain clears in the Mother City, relief in the north as heat wave subsides

The rain clears up in the Western Cape and temperatures increase slightly in the Mother City on Thursday, while the heat wave that caused a spike in temperatures up north subsides.

Warnings

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over Gauteng, the central and eastern parts of North West and the north-eastern parts of the Free State.

Rain

Isolated showers and rain can be expected over the eastern parts of the Eastern Cape and isolated morning showers have been predicted for KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).

Temperatures

Minimum temperatures are expected to be cool to cold across most of the country, but warmer weather has been predicted for the East Coast and northern border.

Temperatures in a few places are expected to drop to 0°C.

Maximum temperatures are expected to be cold across the Western Cape, the southern parts of the Northern Cape, the Eastern Cape, the southern and eastern parts of the Free State, the eastern parts of KZN and the southern parts of Mpumalanga.

Cool weather is expected along the southern coastline and the East Coast, as well as the northern parts of the Northern Cape, the central Free State and the southern parts of Limpopo.

High temperatures have been predicted for the north and warm weather can be expected across the south-western parts of the North West, the south-eastern parts of Gauteng and the northern parts of Limpopo. Hot weather conditions are expected for the eastern parts of the North West and the northern parts of Gauteng.

Rustenburg in the North West is expected to be one of the hottest places, reaching a high of 35°C.

Pretoria is expected to reach a high of 33°C, while Johannesburg is expected to reach a high of 30°C and Bloemfontein a high of 25°C.

Along the coast, Cape Town is expected to reach a high of 16°C, while Port Elizabeth is expected to reach a high of 18°C and Durban a high of 20°C.
