JIND: In all, 495 cases have been filed at the women's police station in
Jind district since it was established in 2015, with a little over 40% of the total cases being reported from January to August this year alone.
As per data with the Jind women's police station, 38 cases were filed by women in 2015. The figure went up to 105 cases in 2016 and 153 in 2017. Till August this year, 199 cases had been lodged at the station.
Apart from FIRs, the station received 4,559 complaints from the time it started in 2015 up to August this year. Of these, 3,460 complaints were sorted out with reconciliation, while 40 were found to be false, said police.
The remaining complaints were related to family disputes, including property cases, pending in courts.
Hisar range inspector general of police (IGP) Sanjay Kumar said women were not as forthcoming before the dedicated police stations for women were set up in the state, including
Kurukshetra.
"Now they have started coming to women's police stations to file complaints against exploitation and other issues faced by them," IG Kumar said, adding that they had plans to increase the number of woman investigating officers (
IOs), so that complaints could be tackled quickly.
