HYDERABAD: A city woman has been given talaq (divorce) on
Whatsapp by her husband, an Omani national. Huma Saira, a resident of Fatehshanagar, received the message on August 12, 2018. The husband who is in Oman has allegedly not been responding to her calls. On Wednesday, the 30-year-old woman wrote to union external affairs minister

Human Saira had got married to 63-year-old Ghabish Said Nasib Al Jalboobi, a citizen of Sultanate of Oman on May 21, 2017. The nikah was performed on phone by Qazi Farid Ahmed Khan, who is chief qazi of Mumbai, at a house of an agent Syed Yousuf in Hafezbabanagar in Hyderabad. It was the agent who fixed the marriage.
In her letter to Sushma Swaraj, Huma Saira said the Omani national had promised to pay her Rs 1.25 lakh but she got only Rs 30,000. She said the rest of the money was taken by the agent.
After her marriage, Huma Saira travelled to Oman along with my husband on July 11, 2017. “I used to be ill-treated, beaten, denied medical facility and not given proper food,” she said. Saira also gave birth to a baby boy on March 29, 2018, at Sohar Hospital. “As my child was a premature baby, he was admitted in the hospital for two months later and later shifted to Royal Hospital and he died on June 24, 2018,” she said.
Huma Saira said she was in a state of shock and had fallen ill. Her husband asked her to take rest for some days and sent her to Hyderabad on July 30, 2018. However on August 12, much to her shock, she got a Whatsapp message from her saying that he had given her talaq.
“From on that day I have been trying to contact my husband but he is not responding me. Kindly interfere in this matter and ask the Indian Embassy in Muscat, Oman to help me in getting justice,” Human Saira said provided the telephone number of her husband.
