NEW DELHI: One of the two nose wheel tyres of an
IndiGo aircraft burst while taking off from Mumbai for Ahmedabad on Wednesday evening with 185 passengers on board. The pilots asked for an emergency landing at Ahmedabad where the plane touched down safely but the Airbus A-320 (VT-IHR) was stuck on the runway for some time due to which no other flights could operate.
“The aircraft reported a tyre burst while taking off from Mumbai airport. The pilot had requested for an emergency landing at Ahmedabad which was immediately approved by Ahmedabad air traffic control. Emergency procedures were initiated at Ahmedabad airport. The aircraft was accorded full priority. The flight landed at Ahmedabad safely at time 7.21 pm,” said a senior official of the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
“Everyone on board the plane is safe. The aircraft is now parked at Ahmedabad airport for a detailed inspection,” the official added.
A senior DGCA official said the aircraft got stuck on the runway after landing as “number two nose wheel tyre was decapped. The aircraft is being towed to the bay. There was no engine issue this time.”
An IndiGo spokesperson said, “An IndiGo aircraft operated 6E-361 from Mumbai-Ahmedabad. After arrival at Ahmedabad, a tyre de-capping with full tyre pressure intact was observed .The aircraft has been towed to the parking bay. The wheel is being replaced and aircraft will be cleared for further flight. There shall be no impact on the operations.”
