THANE: A fire broke out in a sixth floor apartment of a plush 15 storeyed building at Glady’s Alwares Road late on Monday night. As many as 130 residents were evacuated by the fire officials.
Officials said that at 3.30am, a police patrolling team at Khewra Circle junction noticed two women—a mother and daughter—screaming for help at Cedar co-operative housing society in
Eden Woods complex. The cops rushed to their aide and informed the fire brigade officials.
A team of 10 fire officials rushed to the spot and began rescue operations.

fire department, said, “Even though the cooling operations took only 15 minutes, there was a lot of smoke coming out of the living room. So evacuated the building immediately. As per the preliminary reports, it cause of the fire seems to be due to a short-circuit. The family Ganpati idol at home and had decorated the place with lights. There was a shot-circuit due to this.”
Due to regular mock drills and installation of the fire alarms, residents said that they were able to get out of their homes quickly and meet at an assembly point.
