The company was required to close the plant no later than December 2019 as part of an agreement with the state of New Jersey.
In July, Exelon announced a conditional sale of Oyster Creek to energy company Holtec International, which will manage all site decommissioning and restoration activities.
The transaction is expected to close in 2019.

Oyster Creek is located about 60 miles (97 kilometers) east of Philadelphia in Ocean County, New Jersey. It entered service in 1969 and was capable of generating about 608 megawatts of power.
