A man allegedly hacked his 25-year-old son to death and surrendered before the police at Turangi on the city’s outskirts in the early hours of Sunday.
According to the Kakinada Rural police, Gokada Appa Rao, 52, a farmer from Turangi New Colony, was fed up with his son Govinda Raju, as he was not doing any work for a living but insisting the family members of providing him money to lead a lavish life.
Appa Rao performed Govinda Raju’s marriage with a girl known to their family with a hope that his son would become responsible after the marriage. However, there seemed to be no change in the attitude of Govinda Raju and arguments between the father and son became order of the day.
With the daughter-in-law returning to her parents’ house making it clear to Appa Rao that she would return only when Govinda Raju started earning money.
Upset by this, Appa Rao picked up an altercation with Govinda Raju, who reached home after nigh long liquor party with his friends in the early hours of Sunday. Kakinada Rural Inspector Rambabu said Appa Rao attacked Govinda Raju with a sickle and surrendered before the police with the weapon. The body was sent to the Government General Hospital for a post-mortem. A case was registered and investigation is on.
