New Peugeot concept for Paris promises to be retro, all-electric and autonomous

Peugeot is readying a new electric concept car ahead of the Paris Motor Show, which appears to be a retro-inspired all-electric autonomous coupe.

Several Peugeot insiders and executives have broken silence on the vehicle on social media, with a flurry of teaser images of the vehicle hitting the net. The most revealing image, shown above and removed from Peugeot social media channels, confirms an old-school shape, with a tall windowline and traditional three-box coupe profile reminiscent of the Peugeot 504 Coupe.

Some smaller design details can be noticed too. The rear lights use triple-slash style LED signatures – a classic touch recently reintroduced on contemporary Peugeots like the new 508 and the 3008 SUV. Cameras have also replaced the side mirrors.

According to Instagram posts by Peugeot chief designer Gilles Vidal, the concept is fully electric and boasts some degree of autonomy, though specific details regarding the level of autonomy the concept can achieve, and exact powertrain details, are still under wraps.

Parent company PSA has already promised that ‘hands-off’ level three semi-autonomous driving features will be available in some of the company’s cars from 2020 onwards.

In a separate post on Twitter, Peugeot CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato revealed that the concept has taken two years to create. The image again hints at the boxy, retro-futuristic proportions and shape of the as yet unnamed show car.
