LUCKNOW: The entry of heavy vehicles on Aishbagh flyover has been stopped as it has been declared ‘dangerous and unfit for use’ by the Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) in its preliminary report submitted to the public works department (PWD).

The flyover is said to have been constructed in the early 1980s.

A team of two principal scientists from CRRI and a team of engineers from PWD and UP Bridge Corporation inspected the flyover recently and concluded that there were cracks in at least three piers of the flyover.

The final report is expected to come in three months. Superintending engineer, Lucknow circle of PWD, Pankaj Bakaya said, “Based on CRRI’s preliminary findings and detailed suggestions to us, we had requested Lucknow divisional commissioner to stop the flow of heavy traffic on the flyover. Once the final report is submitted to PWD, the repair work will be taken up accordingly.” Divisional commissioner Anil Garg said, “The traffic on the flyover has been stopped on PWD’s request and a barricade put up. An alternate route has also been given for public ease.”

SP traffic RS Nim said heavy vehicles on the route will now go from Basmandi via Mawaiyya to Alambagh.
