However, we human beings know with data and facts that something is wrong and should go wrong with the world. But that is not true. We can change the world for the better. Our commitment to change the world starts from us; and starts with our health.

 

What is health? It is the absence of disease and disorder. And what is disease and disorder? That which does not allow you to function at ease.

 

We don’t approach health with our pre-fixed belief systems based on religion, community or culture. Health is beyond these. Health is directly connected with spirituality; that which remains the same for everyone and that which will remain the same forever. This is the fundamental understanding of health.

1. Why has God sent us here? Certainly not to make him happy through spiritual practices, poojas and rituals! And neither to create success for god. No. We are on planet earth only to experience happiness for ourselves through ourselves, to live a life of success and happiness. One needs to understand two things; first, you are here to make sure you don’t come to planet earth again, and second, for this to happen good health is the basic need.

Your physical body is the very source through which you raise yourself to the non-physical zone of consciousness. Only through the physical intelligence can you connect to the non-physical supreme intelligence. Only with the visible (sthula shariram) can you go to the invisible (teja shariram). To be capable of practicing any sadhana to connect with god one needs the physical body in good health and happiness. Because knowing the best meditation, practice isn’t possible without good health. 

If you want to swim, you need water. It’s no use knowing swimming without having water. Similarly, without a healthy body learning meditation is useless.

 

The divine can bless you with the best in life, but no one can exercise for you, that one must do for oneself.

2. You are the creator and nurturer of the future: You may meditate or not, pray or not, believe or not in god but you need to keep yourself in good health because you are the source to create the next generation. When you have a sound and healthy body you aren’t just changing yourself, you change an entire generation.

 

A child born with a genetic disorder, it’s no fault of the child’s. A defect in the parent is reflecting in the child as a disease. It is possible to create a healthy child only if one is healthy themselves. Once a healthy child is delivered, the challenge is to raise them with health.

 

The next generation is the future possibility. Anything that helps us grow from the present state is a resource, and that which takes you backwards or stops you from growing is a resistance. With a health problem one can only be a resistance not a resource. So, health is a necessary requirement not just for ourselves, but for the next generation. Because we create our next generation and it is our responsibility to create a healthy and happy next generation!

Taking care of your health, you won’t just live happily but with peace knowing that your next generation will live with health and happiness and you have done what you were supposed to for them. ‘The effort to contribute to others during one’s existence is the highest aspect of a spiritual person’.

3. Your health is in your hands: Diseases can be due to various reasons, genetically passed on, lifestyle, the environment etc. To protect oneself, one needs good health and that is decided by one’s immunity. Health isn’t just the physical measurable parameters of health, there are some vital energies within the body that need to be preserved and increased so one stays with the highest immunity to enjoy a lifetime of sound health.

 

Right food, right thought, right action and right sadhana to preserve and increase the vital energies in the body form the very foundation for good health.

4. Sadhana, the secret for success: Knowledge or information about health can never bring change. Only self-effort to practice what you know can bring the change you want. Learning a powerful process like Prana-Vritti or breathing exercises will help only when one commits themselves to practice what is learnt. This is the fundamental requirement to bring positive change. This is called Sadhana.

   

Sadhana keeps you away from all pain (vedana) and suffering (rodhana) and ensures you go through unstoppable positive change. One should take full responsibly for their own health. Sharira Dharma says it beautifully, ‘the time you spend in maintaining your fitness and wellness; will save you eighteen times that time you would spend recovering from sickness and illness in future’

I demand, command, request and above all recommend you take care of your body. Commit yourself to practice sadhanas not just to be with a human body but to be a human body with divine powers.

 

One might not be blessed with a good life, but every human being has the power to gift himself the life he wants to live, and it starts with good health!
