AHMEDABAD: Swine flu and dengue seem to be rearing up again in the city. There have been 76 cases of dengue and 51 of swine in the last week. There have also been six deaths from swine flu in the city in the same period.
According to figures released by the
Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (
AMC), the city recorded ten
swine flu deaths in the first fortnight of September and 19 in 2018.
AMC’s health officer Bhavin Solanki said there have been 111 cases of swine flu in 2018. Of these 111 cases, 51 were reported between September 9 and September 15. The number of cases reported last week made up 45% of the total number of cases this year. Similarly, of the swine flu 19 deaths, six, or about 32% of the total this year, were reported in the last week.
Swine flu reared up again only after mid-August. From August 15 to September 15, there have been some 89 cases and 13 deaths in Ahmedabad city.
Similarly, there have been 76 cases of dengue in the last week. Official data revealed that there were nine cases of dengue in the first eight days of September, in the last week, from September 9 to September 15, there are 76 cases.
Officials said that last year a total of 197 dengue cases had been registered. There were also three chikungunya cases reported in the last week.
Solanki said that despite 76 cases of dengue reported in the last week, there were no deaths in the city because of dengue or any disease other than swine flu.
