GREATER NOIDA: At least 74 stolen
vehicles were recovered from different spots of Gautam Buddh Nagar during a three-day special checking drive that was launched on Thursday. The seized vehicles included 67 motorcycles, five scooters and two cars. During the drive, 12 people were also arrested who had several theft cases registered against them.
Police said, in past few weeks a lot of robbery cases were registered at various police stations of Noida and
Greater Noida. Taking the matter into cognizance, senior officials had advised the SHOs to hold special checking drives at important locations across the district. The drive began from September 13 and ended on Saturday.
Ummed Kumar, a senior official at police media cell told TOI that the arrested persons led the cops to the places where they keep the vehicles before selling them.
“The criminals led the cops to various deserted plots where they keep the
stolen vehicles for sometime before they can sell them. Most of them admitted their previous thefts in several areas of the district while others told names of their allies,” said the official.
Devpal Singh Pundhir, SHO at Knowledge Park police station explained that the modus operandi of these criminals is to steal motorbikes from the market area using a master key and later sell it in the black market as parts.
