RAJKOT: A woman’s skeleton was found in a dismembered condition with her hands, feet, torso and head scattered about at different places at a secluded plot behind NRI Park on Kalawad Road in Rajkot on Sunday.

“The parts of the skeleton were scattered around in the radius of half a kilometre. We were able to ascertain that the skeleton was that of a woman after we found her sari, sandals, ornaments and hair,” said Lodhika police station assistant sub-inspector Ashok Patel.

“Though prima facie it appears to be a case of suspected murder, it can be confirmed after the postmortem is done. We have sent the mortal remains of the woman for forensic examination. It may have been possible that her body had been torn apart by stray dogs after the culprits had disposed it off,” said Patel.

Meanwhile, the cops have launched an investigation to ascertain the identity of the victim on a war footing. “We are trying to find out whether any woman had gone missing for the past one week from Kalawad Road and nearby areas, and are checking the footages of various CCTV cameras installed along Kalawad Road,” added Patel.

The deceased appeared to be in her mid 30s, said police.
