Rajkot: A counterfeit currency scam was busted and 37 notes were seized from Patel Colony locality in Jamnagar on Monday. One person was arrested in this connection. According to police, the seizure consisted of 32 notes of Rs 2,000 denominations and five notes of Rs 500 denominations.
“Along with the seizure, we arrested Zahid Sheikh, a resident of Shastrinagar in Patel Colony. Sheikh, who works at a hotel in Tran Batti Chowk locality of Jamnagar, said during his interrogation that he had procured a scanner and a printer and been printing notes for the past one month. We are yet to find out how many counterfeit notes Sheikh has circulated in the market,” said Jamnagar local crime branch inspector Rohit Dodia.

Cops also seized a bundle of blank papers of the size of notes, a cellphone and Rs 6,000 cash from Sheikh’s possession. Probe found that Sheikh had recently returned from an African country where he had spent a decade. tnn
