‘Exempt all job works from e-way bill’

LUDHIANA: A day after the much sought after changes in e-way bill were notified by the state taxation department, resentment is being witnessed amongst businessmen against government for exempting only fabric job work from e-way bill and not giving similar exemption to job works done in other sectors like bicycle, sewing machine, fasteners.
According to Inderjit Singh Navyug, president of United Cycle and Parts Manufacturers Association, (UCPMA) like hosiery and garment industry there are a lot of processes in bicycle and other sectors where different type of job works are done and therefore exempting only fabric job work from e-way bill requirement is totally unjustified. “The government should reconsider its decision and exempt every kind of job work regardless of the industry from e-way bill if it wants to give relief to us,” he said.

Speaking to TOI, Narinder Bhamra, president of fasteners manufacturers association of India, said, “We are satisfied with the increase in the exemption limit for e-way bills within state but exempting only job work of garment industry from e-way bill will set a wrong precedent and how can government or state taxation department justify not giving similar exemption to other industries. Therefore, it is our request to finance minister Manpreet Badal to review this decision and exempt all kinds of job work being done by any industry from e-way bill.”
