JAIPUR: In a major twist in Indian Revenue Service (IRS) official Binny Sharma suicide case (34), the city police who had been probing allegations that her husband Gurprit Walia, an Indian Accounts and Audit Service (IAAS) official had sexually assaulted a 16-year-old maid, said the girl declined allegations when the police spoke to her.
Deputy commissioner of police (Jaipur east) Gaurav Yadav told TOI that police had tracked down the girl after Binny’s father shared a video recorded by her daughter in which she is questioning their maid, who was allegedly sexually assaulted by Gurpit Walia in Kumbhalgarh. While the maid in the video gave her nod that she was sexually exploited, the police investigation rules out allegations of sexual assault.

“Until now we could not move forward because she did not come before us. But we tracked the maid seen in the video a couple of days ago and spoke to her. She did not confirm the allegations of any sexual assault,” Yadav said, adding that two counselling sessions were conducted for the girl.

The girl during these sessions said that she had worked at the couple’s Bajaj Nagar located house for about one month. But the couple used to quarrel all the time due to which she decided to leave the house. The officials said that another counselling session may be conducted and if it’s confirmed that he indeed sexually molested her, a case could be filed against Walia.

While the initial investigation may have ruled out allegations of sexual assault, Binny Sharma’s diary indicate that she was allegedly mentally harassed by her husband.

Binny, a 2008 batch IRS official committed suicide on August 6 inside her Bajaj Nagar located quarter. A few months before she took the extreme step, she wrote in her diary about how she was miserable because of her husband. “He seems to be hell-bent upon ruining my peace…. I feel dejected, and lonely and cheated… can’t bear this torture anymore,” she wrote. Another entry in the diary adds that her husband was “a morally depraved human being” and had affairs with several women.
