He allegedly duped people of ₹3 crore promising jobs

The police arrested a man who claimed to be an IAS officer and duped around 100 people of ₹3 crore, promising them government jobs.

The police acted after Balamurugan, 29, a resident of Tiruvannamalai lodged a complaint with the Commissioner of Police alleging that Navappan, 28, of Thandarampattu, claimed to be an IAS officer. He used to travel in cars with blue revolving lights, giving people the impression that he was a civil servant. Navappan allegedly promised him and 10 other people government jobs and took a sum of ₹45 lakh from them. However, he neither got back to the people with the promised job offers nor did he return them their money.

A team from the Central Crime Branch was asked to investigate the matter. When the officers questioned him , he told them that he claimed to be an IAS cadre from Uttar Pradesh. They found that he would also convince people by clicking pictures in front of the Secretariat building and sending them to job aspirants on Whatsapp. He reportedly cheated around a 100 people to the tune of ₹3 crore, and sent them forged appointment orders. When anyone tried to ask him for their money, he would threaten them, taking the help of an accomplice, the police said.
