India will face a catastrophic earthquake if Modi not re-elected PM: Assam BJP president

GUWAHATI: Assam BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass has said that if Narendra Modi is not elected again Prime Minister in 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the scale of damage in the country will be equivalent to the devastation caused by an "earthquake of 8 to 10 magnitude".

Dass was addressing a meeting of BJP's office-bearers, district presidents and party in-charges for assembly constituencies here on Saturday, exhorting them to go full steam in ensuring Modi's victory. He said at the meeting that it will be "great loss" for India if Modi is not re-elected as PM.

"You can well imagine the extent of damage if an earthquake of 8 to 10 magnitude happens to rock India. Everything will go haywire besides wreaking extensive damages. Likewise if we cannot ensure re-election of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India will suffer extensive damage in its economy and also in the socio-cultural sphere. This is our feeling," Dass said in the meeting.

"We do not want our motherland to plunge into such a catastrophe. So, time has come for every one of us to stay alert and avert such misfortune. We all have to work for bringing back our Prime Minister in 2019," Dass exhorted.

Dass has asked the grassroots BJP workers at the meeting to transform at least 20 lakh members out of its total member-strengthen of 27 lakh into an "active force" of the party.

"Our strength will be a formidable one if we can convert into active members at least 20 lakh out of 27 lakh members we have at present in the state," the BJP president said.

Since Thursday BJP has been holding marathon meeting with grassroots workers, fine tuning its strategies to improve its performance in the parliamentary polls. In 2014, BJP created history in Assam by winning seven out of 14 parliamentary seats in the state. Unlike 2014, this time BJP is expected to leave a few seats for its allies Asom Gana Parishad and Bodoland People's Front in the next year's Lok Sabha polls.

The thrust of Saturday's meeting was to drive home the point among grassroots workers that BJP's victory is essential for "country's and Assam's progress". BJP national general secretary Arun Singh was present at the meeting.
