LUCKNOW: A rapid response team has been constituted by the district health office to spread awareness and manage cases of H1N1 in Lucknow. The orders came on Saturday, a day after a 58-year-old resident tested positive to the seasonal infection.
It may be noted that Lucknow saw the maximum number of swine flu cases reported in UP in 2017. This year, eight persons have tested positive to H1N1 since January.

The team has been formed after the instructions from the state health department which has also formed a task force for monitoring of suspected cases of Influenza A and H1N1.

"The response teams, which will be lead by the district majistrate, would swing into action in the disease season to monitor any emergency situation. The team will also study disease trend and analyse data to moderate its combat plan," said Dr Sunit Saxena, spokesperson, district health office.

While the state-level task force would comrprise director general medical education, director animal husbandry, director communicable diseases, director medicine health, director district hospital balrampur, director cmsd and state nodal officer for Influenza-A and H1N1, the one at district level would include physician, epidemiologist, pathologist along with a technician, a microbiologist and a veterinary doctor.

In a formal order to chief medical officers across the state, the health department said that the district-level teams would regularly send report to directorate of health. Besides forming a force, district hospitals have been asked to reserve 10 bed to set up an isolation ward for Influenza-A and H1N1 cases.

Health officials said that people should not panic in case of fever. "Not every fever is caused by H1N1. In fact, swine flu has als been cateorised in three groups of which only the third one needs to be hospitalised," explained Dr Saxena.
