To ensure free movement of Vinayaka idol procession ahead of immersion at Kuniamuthur and Kurichi tanks and also to facilitate free flow of vehicular traffic, the city police have announced diversions in traffic pattern in the city on Saturday.
A procession of Indu Makkal Katchi, Hindu Munnani Bharat Sena, Hanuman Sena, and Vishwa Hindu Parishad will begin from Dharmaraja Koil in Kuniamuthur at 1 p.m. and reach Kuniamuthur tank via Palakkad Road. Another procession from Sharada Mill Road will start at 2 p.m. and reach Kurichi tank via Sundarapuram.
From 1 p.m., vehicles proceeding to Ukkadam from Palakkad have to turn left from Kovai Pudur and reach Ukkadam via Kulathupalam, Ashram School junction and Puttuvikki Road.
Vehicles proceeding to Pollachi from Ukkadam should ply through Podanur Kadai Veethi from Kurichi Pirivu, Rail Kalyana Mandapam, Podanur new bridge, G.D. Tank, Chettipalayam and touch Pollachi Road at Echanari Temple.
Vehicles proceeding to Palakkad Road from Pollachi Road via Sundarapuram should turn left at Mahalakshmi Koil junction, reach Madukkarai Market Road, Pillaiyarpuram Junction and Sugunapuram and reach Palakkad Road.
Vehicles going to Ukkadam via Sundarapuram should take right turn at Echanari and reach Ukkadam via Echanari Chettipayalayam Road, G.D. Tank, Podanur new bridge, Podanur Kadai Veethi and Kurichi Pirivu.
All heavy vehicles from Pollachi are prohibited from entering the city and should go via bypass road. Entry of trucks inside the city is completely prohibited from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The city police have appealed to the business establishments not to park their vehicles in front of their shops to provide more space for smooth passage of the processions, according to a release issued by Coimbatore City Police Commissioner K. Periaiah.
