Likely to hold a review meeting on September 17

Five days after it was launched, the doorstep delivery of services by the Delhi government had some teething troubles that are being addressed, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Friday.

The government had launched home delivery of 40 public services, including applications for marriage certificates, water connections, caste certificates and driving licences. Applicants have to call 1076 to book an appointment with a mobile sahayak, who will go to their homes to help fill out forms, deposit fees and collect documents to be submitted to government offices concerned.

Mr. Kejriwal said in a tweet on Friday: “There are initial teething problems. We r working on it. I am personally monitoring it. It is a new idea. We should be able to make citizen experience happy, comfortable n seamless in the next few days [sic].”

Starting with 30 phone lines on Monday, the service now has 180 lines and 100 operators per shift, up from just 40 on day one. Sources said, Mr. Kejriwal, who has been on a visit to Seoul, South Korea, since Wednesday, will be back to take a review meeting on September 17. A government source added that the decision to increase the number of lines could be taken then.

However, according to officials of the Administrative Reforms Department, which is overseeing the project, it is finding trained staff that has been a challenge. A government statement stated, that from Monday 10 a.m., when the service was launched, till Friday 5 p.m., a total of 6,058 appointments had been fixed and 1,046 home visits completed by mobile sahayaks.
