Cigarette butt causes balcony fire in Kingston
A balcony fire that broke out at a Kingston unit on Saturday afternoon was caused by a cigarette butt, according to ACT Fire and Rescue.
Firefighters were called to an apartment building on East Lake Parade at about 12.20pm, where they extinguished a blaze that had broken out in an unoccupied third-storey apartment.
No injuries were reported.
The fire began when a cigarette that had been left in a pot plant was not properly extinguished.
ACT Fire and Rescue urged people to take care when discarding cigarettes.
