Commuters on Airport Express Line will be able to travel using a QR code generated on their phones instead of buying tokens or smart cards.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said on Friday that the QR code-based ticketing system will come into effect from September 16 in a bid to facilitate travel on the line.
“It will enable commuters to purchase tickets using the Ridlr app without physically coming to the metro station. Commuters can download the app from the Play Store and register using their mobile number and email id,” the DMRC said .
Commuters can buy tickets for a maximum of six passengers at a time through the QR code generated.
“Users simply need to tap on the QR-enabled AFC entry and exit gates at Airport Line metro stations. A new QR code or ticket can be purchased only after the user exits using the last purchased ticket or after the ticket expires at end of the business day,” added the official.
The DMRC said the QR code can be generated from 4 a.m. to 10 minutes prior to the last advertised train timing. Unused QR codes will expire automatically at midnight.
