LUDHIANA: A night before Jagdeep Singh Rinkle’s murder, local councillor’s son Jatinderpal Singh Sunny took contract killer Gurmeet Singh Budhu to Amarpuran Mohalla to make a reconnaissance of the victim’s house. This was revealed by the Punjab Police counter-intelligence wing, which arrested three contract killers involved in the Rinkle murder case.
The wing had arrested the three — Gurmeet Singh Budhu, 36, Manmeet Singh, 26, of Lohara in Jalandhar and Bhupinder Singh, 34, of Jandor in Hoshiarpur — from Bhogpur town of Jalandhar district on September 11. The police had also recovered two illegal pistols along with live cartridges and two cars used in the crime from their possession. The accused belonged to Doaba’s Sheru gang.

According to the wing’s AIG HPS Khakh, it is suspected that kingpin of Sheru Gang Satnam Singh, alias Sukhi Dherowalia, also visited the city before to fix the deal.

The AIG said during interrogation, Gurmeet confessed that Satnam had deputed him to execute the crime. After striking the deal, Satnam and his accomplices — Bhupinder, Gurmeet, Manmeet, Monu Kaul, Gurpreet Singh, Vishal and Deepu — reached Ludhiana in a cherry Polo car (PB07-L-3377) and met Jatinderpal, who booked two rooms in a hotel for them. Jatinderpal and seven members of Satnam’s gang stayed overnight in the hotel on July 18. Hours before, Jatinderpal took Gurmeet along for a recce of Rinkle’s house. They executed the crime the next day.

The AIG said on July 19, Satnam deliberately went for a court hearing to avoid suspicion.

Ludhiana deputy commissioner of police Ashwani Kapoor said, “The police will bring the three arrested accused on production warrant on Saturday. Their interrogation will throw more light on the case.”

The role of councillor Gurdeep Singh Neetu has not come in the picture so far. It could be ascertained with the arrest of all the accused, he added.

Rinkle, 22, a BJP worker, was thrashed to death at his house in Amarpuran Mohalla on July 19.
