A retired Assistant Commissioner of Police has been booked by the Home Department for shoddy investigation in a dowry death case nine years ago.

Based on a complaint filed by A. Viay Kumar, Under Secretary of Karnataka Govt. Internal Administrative Department (Police Services), the Baiyappanahalli police have filed an FIR against Manjunath G.B., former ACP, Halasuru sub-division, charging him under Section 218 (public servant framing incorrect record or writing with intent to save person from punishment or property from forfeiture), on Tuesday.

In his complaint, Vijay Kumar said that Manjunath was probing a dowry death case reported in 2009. His job as an Investigating Officer was shoddy and helped the accused get acquitted in the case, he said.

Taking serious note, the department conducted a detailed probe and found that it was a deliberate attempt by Manjunath to help the accused escape punishment.
