Diversity of gender in corporate & industries at large is not just an India subject but a Global one. And when the industry is Real Estate, the matter becomes even more highlighted as it has quintessentially been a masculine environment where women have largely remained under represented.
Worlds' leading economy has the 2nd largest potential in APAC region to improve participation of women in workforce. No doubt, their participation on higher productivity sectors will encourage economic growth.
Growth for me is just not an economic number but a measure of how many had a role to play. Undeniably, Real Estate, which is the most recognized sectors in India is the 2nd largest employer after agriculture and has the capacity to not only absorb the fairer sex but also set it as an example of promoting equality, thereby, contributing not just to the industry but our societies as a whole.
It calls for a CHANGE IN THE MINDSET.................
Going beyond the "Marzipan Layer”: is the need of hour where women should be accepted as being capable to effectively lead C - suite positions. The biggest challenge for any industry is transformation of any sorts and the hurdle to this transformation is the human itself. Therefore, it needs an outlook sea-change and it is no other than the women herself who takes on the baton. Enough has been talked and heard, it is time to "get noticed, get adopted and attain leadership".
Attain POWER of REAL BALANCE: Women are blessed with power of multi tasking & transporting successfully both personal & social competency by bringing out the power of their personality to serve the purpose. So, create balance between Pride & Purpose.
Empowering oneself with KNOWLEDGE: There is no substitute to the power of knowledge. The only singular thing that none can take away from you is this power of learning. Gender diversity is being echoed, as it is considered imperative for fetching increased productivity, innovation and bringing in fresh perspective for keeping pace with the fast changing marketplace.
ENGAGE others to join: Don't wait and look around for role models to inspire you, become one yourself. The moment you resolve to champion your existence, you will also motivate others to bond together.
STAY in the GAME: Perseverance is the name. It is easier to quit than to carry on, so ‘Give Yourself a Chance.’ What we are today is a product of our own experiences and relentless determination. So refuse to be discouraged & create your own Space.
Being a part of the leading global name in Real Estate, RE/MAX, I have seen very closely the attachment of women to this sector in international markets where regions are led & managed successfully by women. Against the Industry belief and structure, paradoxically, when RE/MAX started in USA 45 years back, it had higher reflection of women by percentage which was more than 60% as it was not considered as a full time occupation for men. But seeing the success it created, it started drawing men in the business too. Today also, RE/MAX has substantial active input from women not only in its network but also within the organization. This also calls attention from companies to have welcoming culture, identify potential early to nurture through training and mentoring programs.
